Abstract

In the book "Politics, Pop Culture, and Entertainment: The Likely Encounter that is Transforming Contemporary Democracy," authors Luís Mauro Sá Martino and Ângela Cristina Salgueiro Marques argue that politics is increasingly present in everyday life, whether in art, pop culture, or the media. The publication discusses how entertainment and pop culture can address underlying social issues, while politics learns to speak the language of the public, using the formats of the media to achieve greater visibility and attention. The authors highlight how media celebrities have become involved in political issues and their mobilization capacity. Among the various topics addressed are the relationship between politics and entertainment, the influence of fans, political polarization, the use of humor, visibility strategies, the importance of image and memes, music as a political tool, political debates and live streams, and the challenges of fake news and misinformation. In the current context of deep mediatization and platformization, the book argues that relationships are increasingly mediated, especially in the digital environment.
