Abstract

This article offers a concise historical analysis of INTERCOM, the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Communication Studies, situating it within the process of consolidating the communication field. Three key sections are presented: (i) introduction of the theoretical-methodological elements, including the neo-institutionalist approach and analytical narrative strategy; (ii) analysis of the society's trajectory as a scientific entity; and (iii) highlighting the significant role of Professor José Marques de Melo in this journey, who passed away in 2018 and would turn his 80th birthday in 2023.
