Abstract

The migration from AM-FM radio has transformed the way radio is produced, broadcasted, disseminated, and listened to in Brazil. Nearly a thousand radio stations have been operating in the new spectrum since 2016. This shift in frequency as a public policy has brought technical improvements to the industry, addressing the crisis faced by AM radio. However, it has also triggered significant concerns the reduction of local radiojournalism. This exploratory and qualitative research provides data on the rise of these music and entertainment-related networks, while also investigating the decline of community journalism in stations considered local.
