Latin America

INTRODUCTION

Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias de la Comunicación invites researchers, academics, and professionals from the fields of communication, cultural studies, media studies, literature, arts, and related disciplines to submit articles for a special dossier titled "Media, Socio-Cultural, and Aesthetic Interfaces between Asia and Latin America." This dossier aims to explore the dynamics of interactions between the two regions, investigating the various ways in which media, cultures, societies, and aesthetic expressions have intertwined and mutually influenced each other.

In this sense, it is possible to observe that media interfaces between Asia and Latin America have intensified in recent decades, driven by technological advancements and globalization from a perspective that emphasizes coloniality, post-coloniality, and decoloniality. Thus, this dossier seeks to examine the implications of these interactions in the socio-cultural context, highlighting the transformations that occur in communicative practices, cultural representations, and artistic productions. We are particularly interested in comparative and interdisciplinary studies that contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of these intersections, with a focus on readings that problematize South-South relations globally (Iqani & Resende, 2019).

We invite researchers to investigate the exchanges, influences, and collaborations that occur in this field, exploring the narratives, styles, and themes present in the audiovisual, literary, and artistic productions of these regions (Lu & Camps, 2020). Moreover, we also encourage studies on the role of digital media and social networks in shaping hybrid identities, migratory issues, and the dissemination of cultural content between Asia and Latin America (Hu-DeHart & López, 2008; Retis, 2019).

Additionally, we are interested in examining the possible fusions between Asian and Latin American socio-cultural aspects, considering how these creative practices contribute to intercultural dialogue and the emergence of new expressions that connect the global and the local in contemporary times (Takayama, 2014). We encourage analyses of the appropriation and resignification of Asian and Latin American cultural elements in media, visual arts and translation (studies and empirical experiences), considering how these processes contribute to the creation of new aesthetics, connections and meanings throughout history (Conrad, 2006; Kim, 2017; Capistrano-Baker & Priyadarshini, 2020).

Lastly, we also welcome contributions that discuss cultural policies and media flows between Asia and Latin America. We encourage studies that investigate the economic, political, and social aspects that influence these flows, as well as the strategies for circulation and dissemination of media products. In this way, we hope to expand knowledge about the media, socio-cultural, and aesthetic interfaces between Asia and Latin America, promoting critical and enriching dialogue among the interdisciplinary areas involved in these studies (Moreno Tejada & Tatar, 2016; Bachner & Erber, 2017).
