Call for Papers: 54th edition | “Communication and health in the digital age: emerging agendas and contemporary challenges”

07/28/2026

The field of Communication and Health has established itself as a key interdisciplinary space for understanding the processes of health, illness and care from critical, inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives, situated within the Latin American and global contexts.

In the current context, characterised by digitalisation, the expansion of technological platforms, artificial intelligence and the growing circulation of misinformation in the health sector, it is essential to review and update research agendas, as well as to analyse their implications in terms of inequality, access, rights and social participation.

This field has demonstrated the need to integrate approaches that transcend the theory–practice dichotomy and incorporate social, cultural, technological and political dimensions into the analysis of health processes.

This special issue aims to bring together research that analyses the role of communication in contemporary health processes, drawing on critical and interdisciplinary approaches situated within the Latin American and global contexts, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the field and its international profile.
