Abstract

Based on Brazilian radio studies, this article seeks to provoke a debate on the podcast as a social institution independent of radio. Although authors such as Lopez (2010), Kischinhevsky (2016) and AUTOR (DATA), have included the communication phenomenon under the radio category, it is argued that the use by the public of content formatted in this way has defined the podcast as a medium apart from the older one and which, in terms of language, it resembles. This discussion is based on theoretical formulations by Lemos (11 jul. 2005), Primo (2005), Vicente (2018) and Berry (2006, 2016, 2022). A parallel is also made with what Meditsch (2007, 2010), based on Groth (2006), presents about radio as a social institution and cultural creation, also using Gambaro's (2019) studies on the subject.
