Abstract

Cultural distinctions related to otherness (Merleau-Ponty, 2019; Trouillot, 2011) and identities (Hall, 2016, 2019) are part of the theoretical scope that directs this research into the reception of K-dramas by Brazilian fans. Field research was carried out with the aim of observing habits, behaviors and customs understood as South Korean culture and/or as constitutive of K-dramaland (Schulze, 2013). Results verified cultural perceptions on categories: domestic behavior, romantic relationships and hierarchical relationships. The article concludes that fans, when consuming K-dramas, only partially establish the distinction between what would be South Korean culture and what would be the creation of K-dramaland.
