Abstract

The analysis of political communication under colonial conditions is the purpose of the book, Political communication in Puerto Rico. First anthology of essays, research, and criticism. Of a total of 20 chapters, six are dedicated to contextualizing the who, how and what of Puerto Rican political communication. The remaining 14 chapters present a diversity of reflections on political power and communication in the country/colony, including: journalism from the 19th century to the present; radio as an instrument for expansion of democratic spaces and as an instrument for control of public opinion; cinema as an ideological instrument both economically and politically; the role of the media and interactive digital communication in protest actions; and the polarization of political communication in digital networks.
