Abstract

The article focuses on a phenomenon on the rise: the dismissal of veteran journalists who worked for decades on Brazilian TV stations. Using a framework based on Marxian work and his legatees, the analysis seeks to place these processes of contractual termination in the context of the capital crisis in its contemporary form. As a main contribution, it discusses how the dismissal of important agents in the journalistic field from their jobs tends to be reversed in narratives consistent with neoliberal rationality and celebrated as a “new era”.
