Abstract

The article discusses about the celebration religious of Immaculate Conception, in Recife, State
of Pernambuco, Brazil, and reflects on the challenges of carrying out new arrangements in
the programming of religious activities, within the context of social isolation imposed by the
pandemic of Corona Virus Desease (COVID-19). The analysis of the cultural manifestation was
by the method of participant observation that involves people and the researcher, but in view of the
social isolation and health measures in the current pandemic context, the use of contextualization
of photographs about the event was used as a tool, concurrently with bibliographical research
and information about the party propagated on social networks (Youtube, Facebook, Instagram)
of the Morro da Conceição sanctuary. In order to understand the changes in the context of the
Celebration in the face of the pandemic, data on the realization of the cultural event in previous
years were also analyzed. The results obtained showed how the virtual reveals itself in the process
of resignification of religious festivals, and brings a break in the participation of pilgrims in an
active way within the knowledge and practices of popular communication.
