Abstract

We aim to understand the production of the identity of black gay man in the relationship platform Grindr. To do so, we collected data from the profiles of eight men from the city of Porto Alegre (Brazil) and conducted interviews, discussing the data from the articulation between race and sexuality. We have identified that race is a structuring identity marker of these men's relationships in the app in the search for sexual/affective partners; their identities are constructed through the information filled in their profiles, and blackness is exposed as an identity politicization, going across a continuous tactical regulation of exposure.
