Abstract

This article problematizes the scope and limitations of the concept of media violence for the analysis of the journalistic treatment of femicinide. The reflection we propose is based on the analysis of 278 journalistic notes of two cases of femicide occurred in Mexico in 2017, using the methodologies of critical discourse analysis and content analysis. The findings allowed proposing a specific typology of media violence in the journalistic treatment of femicide that contribute to questioning how the media can violate the victims of femicide and their families by producing and reproducing revictimizing information.

Keywords: media violence; feminicide; discursive practices; mass media.
