Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways through which Development and Social Change Communication (Tufte, 2013; 2015) is epistemically intertwined with the postulates of Permaculture and the ways through which it could contribute towards the permaculture movement on a practical level when aimed at its community aspects. We outline a brief overview of the problems associated with the capitalist development model and discuss the extent to which the permacultural movement presents itself as alternative to the hegemonic development model. We also verify the viability of permaculture within an ecology of knowledge (Santos, 2009) which encompasses communication and sustainable development.
