Abstract

From cultural mediations as inherent processes to understand globalization, the article analyzes the reception of the South Korean series Squid Game by residents of the Los Sirios neighborhood, in Santa Clara, Cuba. The series, which reaches the country through the Weekly Package, an interface used by the population as an alternative to the deficiencies of the Internet, responds to the refined entry of neoliberalism through its symbolic dimension. Through ethnography, approaches and distances are explored between the global imaginary engendered by the Korean series and the locality studied centered on the socialist regime.
