Beyond an epistemology, feminist studies have been developing reflections on the production and dissemination of knowledge. In dialogue with Paulo Freire's fraught, bell hooks devoted part of her work to reflections on formal education. Based on these contributions, we examine the potential of engaged pedagogy through an experience of community journalism with children from a riverside school in Florianópolis, in southern Brazil. Drawing on participant observation, the study analyses the production of a documentary, highlighting the strengthening of identity, the emergence of children´s protagonism, and the formation of an expanded learning community.
