Abstract

Understanding digital games as cultural artifacts endowed with values and meanings, we
analyze the game “Banzo – Marks of Slavery”, a reinterpretation of the Brazilian colonial
past; in it, the control of a quilombo allows for confrontation actions, including cultural and
religious elements. Qualitative thematic analysis identified three major categories (macrostructure,
colonizer-colonized relationships and retaliatory actions) and subcategories such
as the domain of geographic space, the identity syndrome, othering and struggle and physical
violence, making of it an experience of cultural resistance with pedagogical potential.
