Abstract

The work consists of a study on how the Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (Unesp), created in 1976, developed actions, partnerships and projects at the institutional level and with the various sectors to prepare itself, especially from 2018, to face local and global challenges, in the context of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030. Unesp has been implementing actions guided by the themes, principles and values of the SDGs on at least three major fronts: Elaboration, implementation and evaluation of research, teaching, university extension, management, culture, innovation and internationalization policies; Mapping, induction and development of projects and partnerships in the territories in which Unesp is present or intervenes; and Induction, formulation and monitoring of public policies in which Unesp is capacitated and exercises articulating leadership with public authorities and other sectors. The objective of the article is to demonstrate how the SDGs constitute a strategic tool at Unesp, which contributes to underpin the Institutional Development Plan and university governance, and that is effectively institutionalized with the creation of the Working Group Unesp 2030 in 2021, to the extent that it increases dialogue and potential synergy between areas of research and training, sectors of activity, civil society, public authorities and the third sector, anchoring the university in the present and promoting a local and global scenario increasingly sustainable.
